Service Apartment – a solution to have a short-term rental apartment.

For people who came to Japan for a short period of time, in a couple of months, short term accommodations are the best choice to live temporarily in Tokyo.

Usually, in Japan, rental apartments are contracted for two years, with additional moving in fee, such as, deposit (from 1 month rent), plus key money (gift money for house owner, from 1 month rent), agency fee and renewal fee after the two-year-period. Demanding a high up-front fee is a downside for the real estate market in Japan, and a poor option for those who would want to stay for a few months. Normally in Tokyo, the capital, one of the most expensive places to live on Earth, rental housing in the city centers like Tokyo station, Ueno, Shinjuku, Roppongi could cost from *JPY 120,000 per month to unlimited. Low-end service apartments

Usually go with another name, share house, which is famous for millennials. Start from *JPY 50,000 in the rear of Tokyo, where you can rent a fully furnished apartment for short-term stay (start from 1 months), however, it’s quite far from the sharehouse to the station ( around 15 minutes walk). Some service share houses also offer a room share option where you will live with another person in the room with a cheaper price. If you are lucky enough, you will have a room for your own during the stay period.

High-end service apartments

If you would like enjoy a spacious apartment, in newer building, prepare some hard cash as high-end services apartment with stylist interior, newly furnished furniture, in the middle of Tokyo could range from *JPY 200,000 to unlimited.

The bad thing about service apartments is that:

  • More expensive, but cheaper than a hotel. The more you live closer to the centers, or the station, the more expensive it is.
  • Most of them are not fully English supported.
