If you plan to stay in Japan from 1 month to under a year, there are a few options that you could select, let us introduce you to some monthly apartment service in Japan. Prices vary and depend on location.
The good thing about the monthly apartment is that:
- You don’t need to buy any furniture, as all monthly apartments are furnished with basic kitchen and utensils needed for your short-term stay in Japan.
- All utilities are included, so you don’t need to take your time trying to go out and pay at the convenience store. (It’s also including wifi!)
In central Tokyo, prices could vary from JPY 250,000 per month to unlimited. Rent usually will be paid monthly but some accept weekly payment with a markup price.
If you want to look for a cheaper solution, still in 23 wards of Tokyo but nearer to the countryside could offer you someplace that is under 100,000 per month. Trade-offs are the location and the buildings are quite old.
If you don’t know where to go? Check out this (from JW) and that (by us) blog for some inspiration!
The bad thing when you rent a monthly apartment is that:
It will cost you a lot if you stay over 6 months.
There are some site that many people are using like:
- TokyoStay: They have guest houses around Tokyo, in good locations.
- Create Guest House: An agency for monthly apartments and guesthouse rooms.
- Sakura House: An agency for monthly apartments, guesthouse, and dormitory rooms in Tokyo and Kyoto. They always have a deposit of JPY 20,000, partial returns when you move out.
- Oakhouse: Aimed at foreigners and travelers.
But why stay at a place on your own when you can live with a local host family, who know the place and can show you around? If it sounds interested to you, let us introduce to you some of or hosts who are very friendly and welcoming foreigners:
- Trilingual host! “I have experienced homestay as a guest in Malaysia and China, so let’s communicate to use English and Chinese(中文)” BTW, he loves dogs (Shiba)
- Dancing and Event Studio 🕺💃”You can experience Sado and kimono , and do yoga and dance in the studio!”
