What is good about a furnished apartment in Japan?
- The flexibility that you can rent it short-term, monthly. If you are going to live in Japan, you can spend 3 months in Tokyo, 1 month in Osaka, and the rest of the year in Kyoto, with only a suitcase when moving in or out. Usually, contracts are a month plus, so as long as you stay for a month, no deposit or additional fee needed.
- Location: Some furnished apartment located in central Tokyo, if you are feeling luxury. Else, within 23 wards of Tokyo but more on the outskirts, the monthly rent could be surprisingly budget-friendly.
- Budget-friendly depends on your type of apartment, the more convenient and fully furnished it is, the more expensive it becomes. Oh right, most places come with WIFI, and utilities included, which is a real deal if you are working from home.
- Moving time sometimes is unpredictable, some places allow you 2 weeks notice in advance.
What is the drawback of renting a furnished apartment?
Yes, there are still some downsides, every accommodation has some tradeoffs. Here are some:
- Monthly rent is more expensive than a non-furnished apartment in Japan and yearly contract apartment. As for furnishing rental, monthly utilities, cleaning services, security services, and other fees are already included in the final monthly rent, try to check it with the agency before you decide.
- Furniture renting fees: You will be charged a fee for using furnishings, some can be cheap from 2000 yen per month to 10,000 yen for the whole package. The agency will charge for damages of the wall or appliances at the end of your stay if something happened, they will use your deposit money for it.
- Deposit money usually will deposit back to your account within 1 week after you moved out if everything is clean. Basic deposit is half month rent, in case you are lucky, some agency will reduce it as a campaign.
